Most of us start the day with idli, dosa, upma or pongal. These are good, home-cooked foods, but they are mostly carbohydrate. On their own, they can leave you hungry again by mid-morning.
Protein helps you stay full, supports muscle, and keeps energy steadier through the morning. The good news is that our own kitchens already have plenty of options.
Simple swaps that work
- Pesarattu instead of plain dosa. Made from whole green gram, it is one of the best protein-rich breakfasts in Andhra cooking.
- Add sprouts. A small bowl of sprouted moong with onion, tomato and lemon goes well next to any tiffin.
- Choose sambar over extra chutney. The dal in sambar adds protein; coconut chutney mostly adds fat.
- Eggs or paneer. A boiled egg or a little paneer bhurji alongside two idlis makes a far more balanced plate.
- Curd or majjiga. A cup of curd or buttermilk adds protein and is good for digestion.
Start with one change
You don't need to change everything at once. Pick one swap for this week and notice how you feel at 11 o'clock. Small, steady changes are what last.
